THE FORMATION OF "THISCITYMUSTFALL!" (Hot Shots IN HIGH TOPS era)
ThisCityMustFall! is a Canadian metalcore band hailing from Vancouver, BC, Canada. The band formed in July, of 2011.
This 5 piece metalcore group is not very popular yet, but they've got a small fanbase, despite having no CD's released yet.
They are currently recording their first album, but the band is incredibly busy with school so we have yet to hear any details.
Just before becoming "ThisCityMustFall!" the band was originally a pop-punk band called "Hot Shots in High Tops."
The idea came about when long time friends Ethan Stone and Michael Lacroix decided to start a band together over summer break.
Originally both Michael and Ethan sang, then Ethan would play guitar, later in recording Ethan would add bass and synthesized drums.
Ironically, Michael told Ethan to sing lead, but when they started practicing, he realized he can't sing and play guitar at the same time,
so Ethan decided to take lead guitar, his passion, and insisted that Michael should sing lead because he has a better voice.
Shortly after, In June, (1 month before becoming ThisCityMustFall) Danny "Danny Doom" Grieg moved to Vancouver from Victoria.
One day, Michael found him at the side of the school Screaming over some of Asking Alexandria's songs in with some friends.
He immediately asked him to join the band, and ever since that day, Michael and Danny have been the best of friends.
Danny joined providing scream vocals, and a second guitar. Now that the vocals were split between 2 members,
Michael had a lot more time on his hands, and they needed a live bassist, so Ethan taught Michael to play bass.
Ryan Worsnop was the next to join the band, he was a classmate of Ethan's and the only drummer they could find,
He was Originally meant to be just a temporary member but, as time went on, Ryan become a close friend of all the members,
Ryan is now their permanent drummer. Despite his carefree personality, he's actually a very talented drummer.
After a few introductory performances at the back of their high school, some at small local venues, a few open mic nights,
and losing the yearly talent show because the judges, "don't approve of that style of vocalization." the band realized,
Danny could not for the life of him play guitar and scream at the same time. Eventually he got fed up and smashed his guitar on stage,
which quickly brought an end to his guitar playing days. They tried a few practices with 1 guitar, but it left their sound feeling empty,
so they searched for a second guitarist. Luckily, Danny (despite being new to Vancouver) had quite a few connections around town.
Andrew "Windmills" Mills, a Friend of Danny's (who is also pretty new to vancouver), played guitar and had some band experience.
He was with a screamo band called "My Last Saturday" at the time, But quickly left the band to Join "Hot Shots in high tops."
With Andrew's departure, "My Last Saturday" lacked a guitar player, fell apart, and eventually disbanded.
With the new 5 man line up and complete musical direction switch, the band felt like they had to come up with a different name,
Danny also said their original name was "fucking gay as fuck!" But ethan insists this has nothing to do with the name change.
After some discussion, they officially declared their name "ThisCityMustFall!" and have stuck with it since.
Shortly after formation, ThisCityMustFall! participated, and tied for 2nd place in the First Battle of the Bands.

Restless Fans, Lots of live shows, And Early Demos! (Starting Fresh)
Shortly after, ThisCityMustFall! started playing live shows at small venues frequently, playing a small handful of tracks like,
"All The Fucking Bullshit!" "The Weekend Never Ends," and crowd favorite, "A Tumor Called Lust."
Despite starting out with a lot of hate on the band's sound, as well as their look, they've starting growing popular among today's youth.
In a few months time, they gathered a decent fan base, and have since been pestered constantly for an album release date.
Up until now, the band hasn't really worked on recording anything because they were all busy with school or other matters,
but in November, Danny Grieg (known by his stage name, "Danny Doom"), the band's vocalist stated the following on his blog:
"Hey you cunts! we're going to release our debut single, "A Tumor Called Lust" some time next year, so you better fucking get it!"
In the mean time, The band would try and get most of their school work out of the way before recording the single.
Unfortunately, the search for a studio to record their music wasn't going very well, most studios would reject the band,
often saying that their sound was too "aggressive" for them, or that the subject matter was wasn't to their tastes.
Growing more and more frustrated with each rejection the band eventually decided to give up and just record it themselves.
Over Christmas break, the band started recording some really rough demos (some of which were distributed at local live shows),
however, the band couldn't afford to produce very many (only 20 exist to this day), and the sound quality was very poor.
Because of this, the demo didn't gain a lot of success, however, the band was determined to keep trying,
so they went back to playing shows more often and expanded to larger venues, hoping they might expand their fan base as well.

Unfortunate situations, Brief Hiatus, And POM Warped Tour! (Current Events)
But because of the increase in band activity, the members started falling behind in school, which led to a short hiatus til spring break.
In June, before a live show Danny started coughing up blood backstage, he said he was fine, and that it was nothing to worry about,
But this continued for some time until a month later, when Danny started coughing violently, and fell unconscious on stage.
He had been straining his vocal chords and doing quite a few drugs at parties held by fans which led to him becoming very ill.
Not wanting to risk the health of Danny, the band decided to go on hiatus until he recovers and is able to perform with the band again.
Despite this hardship, Shortly after they were contacted by one of the managers of the POM Warped Tour.
It seemed they had dropped a band and wanted ThisCityMustFall! to take their place. At first they were hesitant to perform,
But after consulting Danny about it, he said he'd be fine with them playing instrumental versions of their songs until he recovered.
